I’ve been learning a lot about public radio storytelling and technique. There’s a page for that on the Internet: This American Life: Make Radio. It has or links off to pretty much anything you need to know to get started.
One story on Transom that looks really promising is Voice Recording in the Home Studio. It walks through turning a collapsable storage box and some pyramid acoustic foam in to a portable studio.
